    Maltitol Liquid

Maltitol Liquid – Sweeteners & Starch Derivatives product from Bio Green Foods

    About This Product

Maltitol liquid, also called hydrogenated glucose syrup or maltitol syrup, is produced by hydrogenating a high-maltose glucose syrup, converting the reducing sugars to their corresponding sugar alcohols. Maltitol itself carries CAS number 585-88-6 and the European additive number E965(ii). It is supplied as a clear, colourless, viscous solution, typically at 75 percent solids.

Of all the polyols it comes closest to behaving like sugar. Its sweetness is roughly 90 percent that of sucrose with a clean profile and, unlike erythritol or xylitol, almost no cooling effect, so it can replace sugar without altering the product's flavour signature. It provides similar bulk and viscosity, browns very little because hydrogenation removes the reducing groups that drive Maillard browning, and is non-cariogenic. It carries about 2.1 calories per gram against sugar's 4 and has a low glycaemic response. The constraint is tolerance: maltitol is only partially absorbed, and the remainder is fermented in the large intestine, so intake above roughly 30 to 40 grams a day can cause bloating and laxative effects. EU products carrying more than 10 percent polyol must state that excessive consumption may have a laxative effect.

It is used in sugar-free chocolate and confectionery, chewing gum, baked goods, ice cream, jams and pharmaceutical syrups.

Bio Green Foods supplies maltitol liquid to specification on maltitol content, dry solids, reducing sugars, pH, colour, sulphated ash and heavy metals.
