    About This Product

Hesperidin is hesperetin 7-O-rutinoside, the flavanone glycoside that is the most abundant flavonoid in oranges and other citrus fruit. Its formula is C28H34O15, molecular weight 610.6 and CAS number 520-26-3, and it is supplied as a white to light yellow crystalline powder, odourless and tasteless, extracted from immature citrus fruit and peel.

Hesperidin is the headline compound of citrus bioflavonoid ingredients, often combined with vitamin C in tablets and capsules. In medicine a purified flavonoid fraction of diosmin with hesperidin is prescribed for venous conditions, and hesperidin is the raw material from which diosmin is made; in foods and supplements, however, there is no authorised EU health claim for hesperidin, so products are positioned on their flavonoid content rather than on a benefit. Its very low water solubility limits it in drinks, which is why enzymatically modified, glucosylated hesperidin is used where clarity is needed, and it is best suited to tablets, capsules and powders. Grade is chosen on hesperidin content, and the related citrus flavonoids isonaringin and neohesperidin, together with the aglycone hesperetin, are limited individually.

It is used in food supplements and citrus bioflavonoid complexes, vitamin C combinations, functional powders and bars, and as the starting material for diosmin manufacture.

Bio Green Foods supplies hesperidin in 90, 92 and 95 percent grades to specification on appearance, loss on drying, sulphated ash, bulk density, heavy metals, related flavonoids, total impurities and content on the dry basis, in fibre drums.
