    L-Phenylalanine

L-Phenylalanine – Vitamins & Amino Acids product from Bio Green Foods

    About This Product

L-Phenylalanine is an essential aromatic amino acid produced by fermentation. It is the precursor to tyrosine and, through it, to the catecholamine neurotransmitters, which is the basis of its use in supplements.

Its largest industrial use is as a raw material rather than a nutrient: aspartame is the methyl ester of the dipeptide of L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine, so phenylalanine demand tracks aspartame production closely.

One regulatory point governs its use in food. People with phenylketonuria cannot metabolise phenylalanine, and accumulation is harmful, so foods containing it or containing aspartame must carry a declaration that they are a source of phenylalanine. That labelling obligation should be confirmed for the destination market before formulating.

Optical purity matters: only the L-enantiomer is nutritionally useful, and assay together with optical rotation are the specification points to confirm.

Food-grade identity alone does not establish permission for every food or country. Confirm permitted use, limits and labelling requirements for the intended market. Certification availability must be checked for the nominated product and manufacturing site.
