    Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12)

Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) – Vitamins & Amino Acids product from Bio Green Foods

    About This Product

Cyanocobalamin is a cobalt-containing corrinoid and the form in which vitamin B12 is most commonly manufactured and traded. The cyanide ligand attached to the cobalt is what distinguishes it from the other cobalamins, and it is present in trace amounts far below any toxicological concern.

Its value to a formulator is stability. The natural coenzyme forms of B12 are appreciably light sensitive and degrade in processing; cyanocobalamin tolerates heat, moderate light exposure and the pH range of most fortified foods considerably better, so the overage needed to guarantee label claim through shelf life is smaller.

Because the potency is so high, it is almost never handled neat in a food plant. It is supplied as a dilution, commonly 0.1% or 1% on a carrier such as dicalcium phosphate or maltodextrin, so it can be weighed accurately and distributed evenly through a premix. Specify the dilution alongside the assay when enquiring.

Vitamin B12 occurs naturally only in animal-derived foods, which makes fortification of plant-based drinks, breakfast cereals and meat analogues one of its largest applications.
