    About This Product

Neohesperidin is hesperetin 7-O-neohesperidoside, formula C28H34O15, molecular weight 610.6 and CAS number 13241-33-3, extracted chiefly from the immature fruit of bitter orange, Citrus aurantium. It is supplied at 97 percent purity as a powder.

It has the same formula as hesperidin and differs only in how its two sugars are joined: in neohesperidin the rhamnose is linked to the 2-position of glucose, in hesperidin to the 6-position. That small difference changes taste completely. The 1,2-linked neohesperidosides, such as neohesperidin and naringin, are strongly bitter, while the 1,6-linked rutinosides are almost tasteless. The bitterness is the key to its main use, because opening the flavanone ring under alkaline conditions and hydrogenating the resulting chalcone converts neohesperidin into neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, a high-intensity sweetener roughly 1,500 times sweeter than sugar at threshold. A high-purity starting material gives a cleaner conversion and fewer related flavonoids to remove from the sweetener.

It is used as the raw material for neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, in citrus bioflavonoid food supplements, and as a reference material in flavonoid analysis.

Bio Green Foods supplies neohesperidin at 97 percent purity, with the full specification on moisture, related flavonoids, heavy metals and microbiology confirmed with the quotation, in fibre drums.
