About This Product

This is a compostable moulding compound for rigid disposable tableware, supplied as a pellet compound for thin-wall injection moulding of plates, bowls and cups, and supplied FDA compliant for food contact. It is a compounded blend rather than a single resin, so it carries no single CAS number. It is a cold and ambient grade and it is compostable at end of life.

A plate is a big, thin moulding, and the practical limit is whether the melt reaches the rim before it sets. A compound that does not flow far enough produces plates with short shots at the edge, which is scrap, and on a high-cavitation tableware tool the scrap rate is what decides whether the part is worth making at all. The difficulty is that the two things asked of the compound pull against each other. Rigidity in a plate comes from the wall section and from the moulded rim, and thin-wall moulding drives the section down to whatever will reliably fill, so the less material there is in the wall the more of the stiffness has to come from the compound itself; meanwhile the formulation changes that let a melt travel further are generally the ones that soften what it leaves behind. This grade is formulated for that flow length while staying rigid enough that a loaded plate does not flex in the hand. It is a cold and ambient grade: for hot food, use the hot-use container compound, because stiffness falls away as the material is warmed towards its softening point, and an ambient rating tells you nothing about how the article behaves under a hot meal. Supplied as a raw material for processing on your own line. We do not produce finished articles.

It is used in disposable plates and bowls, event and festival catering, food service and canteen tableware.
