About This Product

This is a compostable film compound, supplied as a pellet compound for blown film, for producing wrapping film for catering, food service and retail, and supplied FDA compliant for direct food contact. It is a compounded blend rather than a single resin. It is formulated for cling and conformability, not only for compostability, and it is compostable at end of life.

Compostable wrap has a poor reputation in professional kitchens, and the reason is almost always cling: the film will not stay on the bowl or stick to itself, so it is abandoned, and a roll that gets abandoned halfway through service costs more than the conventional film it replaced. Cling is not adhesion in the glue sense. It is a short-range attraction between surfaces, and it acts only where two surfaces are genuinely in intimate contact, so the film has to be soft and conformable enough to follow the shape of a rim under nothing more than finger pressure and then stay there once the hand comes away. A stiff film bridges the rim instead of following it: the real contact area is a fraction of what the eye sees, and the film's own elastic recovery is then working to peel it back off. That is why this compound is formulated for conformability as much as for tack, and why cling behaviour and gauge are confirmed against the intended use before supply, because what works over a steel gastronorm is not what works over a plastic retail tray.
