About This Product
This is a compostable injection moulding compound for hot food containers, supplied as a pellet compound, rated to 80C, formulated for microwave use and supplied FDA compliant for food contact. It is a compounded blend rather than a single resin, so it carries no single CAS number, and it is compostable at end of life.
Hot food packaging carries two separate thermal loads, and they arrive from different places: filling hot on the line, and reheating by the customer. A pack that survives the first but deforms in a microwave is not fit for a ready meal. The two are not the same kind of event. Hot filling is a sustained load, because the wall is held at the temperature of the food for as long as the pack takes to cool, usually while stacked, so the question is whether the container creeps out of shape under its own contents rather than whether it survives a moment at temperature. Reheating works the other way round: the energy is developed in the food rather than in the polymer, and the wall is heated from the inside by conduction and by steam, unevenly, so the demand falls on whichever part of the container happens to be against the hottest part of the meal. This compound is rated to 80C and formulated for microwave use, which is what makes it usable for a reheatable product rather than only for takeaway served immediately, and the rating is best read against your own fill temperature and the reheating instruction you print on the pack. Supplied FDA compliant for food contact. The temperature rating covers the container; film lidding is specified separately. Supplied as a raw material for processing on your own line.
