Compostable Chilled Food Container Compound (FDA)

About This Product
This is a compostable injection moulding compound for rigid chilled food containers, supplied FDA compliant for food contact and formulated for chilled and cold service rather than for heat. It is a compounded blend rather than a single resin, so it carries no single CAS number. The property it is built around is impact resistance at low temperature, and it is compostable at end of life.
Packaging for the chill cabinet has a specific failure mode: many polymers become brittle as they cool, so a pack that survives handling at ambient shatters when dropped at 4C. That is what a chilled grade has to solve. The reason for the change is that impact resistance depends on the material having enough molecular mobility to deform locally and blunt a crack before it runs; chilling takes that mobility away, so the same wall that would dent at room temperature splits instead. It matters here more than in most formats because a chilled pack is never handled warm. It is filled cold, cased cold, put out on a cold shelf and picked up cold by a customer, so every knock the pack takes, it takes at its most brittle. This compound keeps its impact resistance at refrigerated temperatures. Freed from any heat requirement, the formulation optimises instead for clarity and stiffness, so the product is visible and the pack feels solid, which is most of what a salad or a chilled dessert is sold on at the shelf edge. Supplied FDA compliant for food contact, for salad, deli, dessert and ready-to-eat packs. Supplied as a raw material for processing on your own line. We do not produce finished articles.
It is used in chilled ready meals, salad and deli packs, dessert packaging and food retail.
Bio Green Foods supplies the compostable chilled food container compound to specification on low-temperature impact performance, clarity, stiffness, part geometry and food-contact documentation.
